The time has come for high quality employment agencies

In today's world of high unemployment, it is easy to take the first job that
is offered in difficult financial times whether that role is suitable for
you or not. Certainly, it is the role of Job Centre Plus to get people off
the dole and back to work, but there are discerning employment agencies out
there that see their role as far more. For them redundancy is not a dirty
word. Talent management is the buzzword where it is people development
rather than supply that is the nature of their game.

Agencies like HDA, for example, see themselves more as talent scouts and
pride themselves in being able to supply a range of consultants who will not
only be able to marry the right individual to the right job, but also supply
executive coaching so that the right person remains in the right job and can
grow within the role too.

These new breeds of agency are also able to go into organisations and advise
them on how they should hire and retain staff. Their argument is if the
leadership is right, then the employee is right and a person becomes a good
employee led by example from the top. This is a proven method of effective
management in the workplace.

Redundancy and career transition go hand in hand in an ever changing market
place. Gone are the days of a job for life. As the workforce gets older and
the retirement horizon moves further away, many of us may change professions
at least 3 or 4 times before we retire. What we need therefore are careers
experts that keep abreast of these changes, who do not discriminate against
any segment of the labour force and are able to promote talent when they
find it.
